By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s domestic air travel reached a record in the first four months of 2026, surpassing 33 million passengers for the first time in the period, according to data released Wednesday by the National Civil Aviation Agency, known as Anac.
The country recorded 33.7 million domestic passengers from January through April, up 6.5% from 31.7 million a year earlier, Anac said. It was the highest volume for the period since the regulator’s data series began in 2000.
Domestic traffic also set a record for April. The number of passengers on flights within Brazil reached 8.0 million, a 1.1% increase from 7.9 million in April 2025. It was the first time the country crossed the 8 million mark for domestic passengers in that month.
The figures point to continued momentum in Brazil’s aviation and tourism industries, supported by stronger demand for domestic destinations and broader activity in services. The government has presented tourism as a driver of regional development, employment and income.
Tourism Minister Gustavo Feliciano said the result reflects the administration’s focus on the sector.
“This historic result is the fruit of intense work by the government of President Lula, which understands tourism as a vital engine for our economy. We are not talking only about statistics, but about millions of connections that drive commerce, hotels, leisure and regional development across the country, generating more income and jobs for our population,” Feliciano said.
International passenger traffic also reached record levels. Brazil registered 2.2 million international passengers in April, up 4.2% from 2.1 million in the same month last year.
From January to April, international passenger traffic totaled 10.6 million, an 11% increase from 9.5 million in the first four months of 2025. That was also the highest level in the historical series.
Including both domestic and international flights, Brazil handled 44.3 million passengers in the first four months of 2026, up 7.6% from 41.2 million a year earlier.
In April alone, total passenger traffic reached 10.2 million, 1.7% higher than the 10.1 million passengers recorded in April 2025.
