By Brazil Stock Guide – Petrobras said it received the resignation of Pietro Mendes as chairman of its board and as a board member, according to a market filing released on Wednesday. The development was first reported by Reuters via Investing.com, which noted the move follows Brazil’s Senate voting to confirm Mendes to a director post at the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
Under Petrobras’s bylaws, the board may appoint an interim chair to serve until the next general shareholders’ meeting, when a permanent replacement can be elected. The company did not provide a timetable for filling the role.
Mendes’s shift from the chairmanship of Petrobras (B3: PETR4; NYSE: PBR) to a senior position at the ANP places him at the center of regulation in a period marked by debates over fuel pricing frameworks, pre-salt development and Brazil’s energy-transition agenda. The ANP oversees the country’s hydrocarbons and biofuels markets, including auctions, compliance and market supervision.
