By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s expanding port activity and offshore energy operations are increasing the risk of maritime and environmental accidents, heightening the need for rapid-response capabilities to limit damage and protect lives. With one of the world’s longest coastlines, the country faces recurring incidents ranging from oil and chemical spills to vessel-related accidents.

Figures from Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels show 731 maritime accidents linked to oil activities over the past year, up from 718 in 2023. The increase underscores the growing importance of specialized teams capable of responding quickly to emergencies and minimizing environmental harm.

Against that backdrop, Ambipar, a global provider of environmental solutions, said it carried out more than 600 prevention and response operations last year across ports and maritime routes. The company said the actions helped prevent oil slicks from reaching sensitive areas and reduced risks tied to cargo movements involving between 1,000 liters and as much as 10 million liters of hydrocarbons.

“Readiness is what determines success in mitigating environmental impacts. We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with 400 trained professionals and vessels distributed across 17 operational bases in nine states,” said Pablo Fonseca, Ambipar’s maritime response leader. “That structure allows us to reach an emergency site within two hours of activation, ensuring a 100% success rate in responses.”

Beyond emergency response, Ambipar provides port-support services aimed at improving safety and operational efficiency. These include ship-to-ship fuel and hazardous cargo transfers, handling of fenders and hoses, and mooring and unmooring of vessels. Preventive containment barriers and on-site monitoring are deployed to reduce environmental risks and comply with port and environmental regulations.

The company also supports dredging operations by supplying vessels and bathymetry equipment, while maintaining environmental readiness through skimmers, temporary storage tanks, drones and containment barriers. In 2025, more than 4,000 operational hours were dedicated to dredging support to reduce environmental impact, the company said.

Ambipar operates in more than 10 ports and channels and carries out over 2,000 port-support operations per month, positioning itself as a strategic partner for Brazil’s maritime logistics sector. The company was founded in 1995 and operates in 41 countries, with more than 23,000 employees and over 600 operational bases worldwide. Its shares trade on Brazil’s B3 exchange under the ticker AMBP3 and on the New York Stock Exchange as AMBP.
