By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s power regulator has authorized a large package of grid upgrades aimed at strengthening the country’s electricity transmission system over the next four years.
The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) approved 687 small-scale reinforcement projects under the 2025 Power Transmission Concessions Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The projects involve investments of about R$1.05 billion and will be carried out by 50 transmission concessionaires operating across multiple regions of Brazil.
The works focus on so-called Small-Scale Reinforcements, which include new facilities and technical upgrades to existing transmission assets. Most of the projects were classified as immediately necessary, reflecting concerns about system reliability, operational security and continuity of electricity supply.
According to the regulator, the upgrades are designed to address operational constraints and reduce risks in the national interconnected system. The implementation schedule runs through 2029, with construction and commissioning spread over the next four years.
The approvals are based on technical studies conducted by the National Electric System Operator (ONS), which identified operational needs and proposed solutions for the transmission network. Aneel’s technical staff reviewed the proposals, confirmed their regulatory compliance and validated the plan submitted by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
