Volskwagen anchors global growth in South America

Region delivers fastest volume expansion worldwide as Brazil cements role as Volkswagen’s third-largest market.

By Brazil Stock Guide – Volkswagen reinforced South America’s role as its main global growth engine in 2025, as the region delivered the strongest expansion in vehicle sales for the brand worldwide. Total deliveries reached 569,174 units, up 14.6% year on year — the highest volume growth recorded by Volkswagen in any region.

The performance underscores the strategic weight of South America at a time when mature markets remain under pressure from slower demand, tighter margins and intensifying competition. Strong results in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia were driven by locally produced, high-turnover models and a distribution network that continues to give the automaker scale and resilience across the region.

Brazil stood out as Volkswagen’s third-largest global market, behind only China and Germany. Sales topped 436,000 units in 2025, a 9% increase from the previous year despite elevated interest rates and fierce competition across price segments. The company closed the year as the clear leader in passenger cars and retained, for the third consecutive year, leadership in the two largest segments of the Brazilian market — hatchbacks and SUVs.

Model performance remained a central pillar of the strategy. The Polo once again ranked as Brazil’s best-selling passenger car, with 122,675 units, while the new T-Cross led the SUV segment with 92,839 vehicles sold. Across all SUV nameplates — including Nivus, Tera, Taos, Tiguan and ID.4 — Volkswagen sold nearly 205,000 units in Brazil in 2025, consolidating its presence in the fastest-growing category of the market.

Elsewhere in South America, growth was equally robust. Argentina posted a 47.4% increase in sales to 94,635 units, Colombia advanced 39% to 10,679 vehicles, Chile rose 23% to 7,132 units, and Uruguay recorded a 13% gain. Together, these results reinforced Volkswagen’s dominance in key regional markets and highlighted the strength of its South American product portfolio.

Exports added another layer of momentum. Volkswagen do Brasil shipped 116,495 vehicles in 2025, a 29% increase from the previous year. The Polo was the most exported model, with 32,579 units, followed closely by the Tera, which reached 25,763 exports to 18 countries in its first full year on the market. Argentina remained the top destination, while Mexico, Colombia and Chile also registered strong growth.
