By Brazil Stock Guide – Suzano SA (SUZB3; SUZ) opened its first consumer goods distribution center in southern Brazil, adding logistics capacity near Curitiba as the pulp and paper producer seeks to expand access to regional markets.
The facility, located in Campina Grande do Sul in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, is operated by DHL Supply Chain, according to information released by Suzano. It marks the company’s entry into the region with a dedicated consumer goods distribution structure.
The center can store more than 2,000 tons of hygiene products, including brands such as Neve, Mimmo and Scala. Suzano said the site will support its consumer goods unit, which sells items including toilet paper, wet wipes, napkins and other personal hygiene products.
The new hub adds to six other distribution centers serving Suzano’s consumer goods business across Brazil. It will be supplied mainly by products manufactured in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, as well as by units in Aracruz and Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo, and Mucuri, Bahia.
“Suzano is the leader in the toilet paper segment in Brazil, with brands that are part of the daily routine of millions of consumers. Our Consumer Goods Unit is less than ten years old and today already leads in the Southeast, North and Northeast regions. Moving forward in the South, with our first distribution center dedicated to the region, is a natural and strategic step. We know that local customers value quality and service levels, and we are ready to raise this standard and expand the competitiveness of this market,” said Bruno Addesso, commercial director of Suzano’s Consumer Goods Unit.
The facility was installed in the Campo Fundo neighborhood and covers more than 9,000 square meters. It has dispatch capacity of 200 tons per day, according to Suzano.
DHL Supply Chain, part of DHL Group (DHL.DE), will manage the operation. Bruno Almeida, operations director at DHL Supply Chain, said the project will increase efficiency and logistics control for Suzano and its customers in southern Brazil.
“The project brings relevant gains for Suzano and its customers in the South region, through increased efficiency and logistics control, with process standardization, the use of an advanced system for inventory and dispatch management, as well as end-to-end online visibility of deliveries. With this, we will have significant advances in order movement agility and better inventory accuracy,” Almeida said.
Ricardo Guidi, vice president of operations at DHL Supply Chain, said the new center also strengthens the scalability and overall performance of Suzano’s logistics operations in southern Brazil.
“The new center also strengthens the scalability and overall performance of Suzano’s logistics operations in the South Region, with a structure prepared to support business growth, absorb demand peaks and operate based on global logistics best practices,” Guidi said.
Suzano said the expansion reinforces its position in Brazil’s tissue paper market. The company has installed capacity of 340,000 tons a year in the tissue paper segment and said the new distribution center broadens its coverage across all regions of the country.
