By Brazil Stock Guide – Adani Defence & Aerospace and Embraer (NYSE: EMBJ / B3: EMBJ3) signed an expanded memorandum of understanding to establish a final assembly line for the E175 regional jet in India, marking a significant step in New Delhi’s push to localize aircraft manufacturing. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, underscoring the geopolitical dimension of the deal.

The move deepens a January 2026 MoU and aligns the E175 with India’s Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA) program, designed to expand connectivity across secondary and tertiary cities. India is expected to require at least 500 aircraft in the 80-to-146-seat category over the next two decades, as passenger traffic continues to grow at one of the fastest rates globally. With capacity for up to 88 passengers, the E175 targets thinner, underserved routes — particularly those incentivized under the government’s UDAN regional connectivity scheme.

Regional aviation is one of the pillars of economic expansion. With initiatives such as the UDAN program expanding air connectivity in mid-sized and smaller cities, it is essential to strengthen regional aviation in the country, said Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Defence & Aerospace.

For Embraer, the plan represents more than incremental sales. Establishing a final assembly line would embed the Brazilian manufacturer deeper into India’s industrial ecosystem, including supply chain localization, pilot training and aftermarket services. The partners said they are advancing discussions on manufacturing, services and securing sufficient aircraft orders to sustain the project.

India is already home to about 50 Embraer aircraft across commercial, defense and executive segments. A local E175 assembly line would position the company to compete more aggressively in a market where domestic production and strategic autonomy — framed under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) doctrine — increasingly shape procurement decisions.
