National Energy Transition Plan Brazil

By Brazil Stock Guide – Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has launched a public consultation on the National Energy Transition Plan (Plante), as part of the country’s efforts to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector. The plan, which lays out a long-term strategy for the energy sector, aims to balance economic development with environmental and social justice.

According to the plan’s projections, Brazil has the potential to achieve 81% renewable sources in its energy matrix by 2055, with the electric grid possibly reaching 99% renewable energy by that year. In 2024, renewable energy sources made up 50% of the Brazilian energy matrix, while the national electrical matrix reached 88.2% renewable generation, and 90.4% clean generation when including nuclear plants.

The National Energy Transition Plan is structured around three core pillars: energy security and resilience, climate and environmental justice, and competitive energy for a low-carbon economy. The consultation is open for 45 days, after which the document will be revised based on public feedback and submitted to the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) for approval. An interministerial group will be created to oversee the implementation of the plan and make adjustments as necessary.
