BYD surpasses 170,000 electrified cars sold in Brazil

By Brazil Stock Guide – Chinese automaker BYD Co. Ltd. (HKEX: 1211) has reached a milestone in Brazil, surpassing 172,000 electrified vehicles sold since entering the market in 2022. The company announced the figure on Monday, highlighting its rapid growth in Latin America’s largest automotive market and its leading role in the transition to electric mobility.

According to the automaker, BYD has sold 172,303 electric and plug-in hybrid cars across Brazil in less than three years. The achievement comes just two months after the company celebrated 150,000 cumulative sales, underscoring its accelerating performance in the region’s electrification race.

Market Growth and Sales Performance

In September 2025, BYD registered 9,934 passenger vehicle sales, ranking seventh overall in Brazil with a 5.56% market share, according to the company’s data. When including fleet and light commercial sales, BYD placed eighth, with 10,024 units sold and 4.33% of total market share. Year-to-date, the brand has reached 77,198 registrations.

Excluding fleet deals, BYD ranked among Brazil’s top five automakers with 9.21% of the retail market, trailing only Volkswagen (ETR: VOW3), Fiat (BIT: STLA), General Motors (NYSE: GM), and Hyundai Motor Co. (KRX: 005380). The company also led retail sales in Porto Velho and Maceió, and ranked in the top three across major cities including Brasília, Fortaleza, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, and Salvador.

Top Models Driving Growth

The company’s best-sellers include the BYD Dolphin Mini, the first fully electric car manufactured in Brazil at its Camaçari (Bahia) plant, with 44,945 units sold, and the BYD Song Plus, a plug-in hybrid model with 36,213 units.

In September, BYD’s top retail performers were:

  • BYD Dolphin Mini – 3,067 units
  • BYD Song Plus – 1,322 units
  • BYD Song Pro – 1,172 units
  • BYD Dolphin – 1,110 units

Corporate Statement

“Two months after celebrating the historic mark of 150,000 cars sold in Brazil, we now reach over 170,000 units since the start of BYD Auto’s operations,” said Alexandre Baldy, Senior Vice President of BYD Brasil and head of marketing and commercial operations. “These results reflect the brand’s steady acceleration and the impact our vehicles are making in the market,” he added.

“With our new Camaçari factory, we’re opening a new chapter for Brazil’s automotive industry, combining innovation with cost efficiency,” Baldy said.

Undisputed EV Market Leader

In the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) segment, BYD reported 5,687 units sold in September, capturing over 70% of market share. The Dolphin Mini, Dolphin, and Yuan Pro ranked as the three best-selling BEVs in the country.

In the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) category, BYD also led with 4,333 units sold and a 22% share of the market, further consolidating its dominance in Brazil’s electrified vehicle landscape.
