By Brazil Stock Guide – Transpetro, the logistics arm of Petrobras (PETR4.SA), said Wednesday (18) it will expand maritime transport services to clients outside the state-controlled oil group, marking a strategic shift to diversify revenue and grow its customer base.
The company has already signed its first third-party contracts with commodity trader Trafigura and fuel distributor Ipiranga, part of Ultrapar (UGPA3.SA), as it moves to strengthen its position in Brazil’s expanding oil logistics market.
Under the new strategy, Transpetro will operate more broadly as a Brazilian Shipping Company, offering additional services such as chartering foreign vessels for both cabotage routes along Brazil’s coast and long-haul international shipping.
While the company had previously served clients beyond Petrobras, the latest move significantly expands its operational scope. Its current fleet includes 33 vessels with a combined deadweight capacity of 3.17 million tons.
The expansion comes amid rising demand for integrated logistics solutions and increasing oil output in Brazil. Between January and November 2025, Brazilian ports handled 203 million tons of oil and derivatives, underscoring strong sector growth.
In addition to transport, Transpetro will provide a wider range of technical and operational services, including vessel safety and compliance assessments, terminal-specific adjustments, regulatory support, operational monitoring and shipping documentation.
“The decision to enter this new segment takes into account the expansion of waterway transport in the country, as well as the increased demand for chartering foreign vessels due to the low availability of Brazilian-flagged ships and rising oil production,” the company said in a statement.
